Hi, been absent for a couple of months. The studying for my new change of career has been very heavy. And, much worse, our eldest DS was assaulted and ended up in hospital with 2 small bleeds on the brain. So not much time spent on the internet.

But, the BR stops for no-one! I have a couple of questions

1. We've got the okay from the OR to buy house (there was equity of about 4k). My dad is paying this for us. But we need to use a solicitor, which is more expense which we can barely afford. What do other people do?

2. The plates on my car are personalised, but they belong to my DH. We have the receipt to prove he went along to the auction, he paid for it, and it is in his name. But the OR wants me to buy them back. Can she do this as they are on my car, but not my property?

Thanks in advance :)

I won't be selling mine - it's personal to us and I love it when I see it on the car.

The glimmer gets brighter all the time

I think for most people personalised plates have sentimental value and they would be reluctant to sell them if they didn't have to.

Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Thanks Paul,

An independent valuation company have said that the plates are worth £750, so I've been asked to make an offer.

My DH would never sell it Jane - even though it's on a 20 year old vw LOL.

I had a private plate, I put down that it was worth about £400, I told the OR a relative would buy it so I could keep it but they could not afford it in the end, I resigned myself to losing the plate but I got a letter exempting it! It must have been too much in admin costs for the OR to take it, so don't lose hope, you may get to keep it

I have decided to sell it now as as I have had it valued and it has since trebled in value and I cannot see me buying a good car again, unless I win the lottery

Hi

good luck with the new career - so sorry to hear about the assault. Trust everything back on track now.

1. House - you don't need to use a solicitor as you can use the Or's solicitor which will only cost the £211 . If you double up on your own it will cost a further £500 - £750.

2. The number plate - although OH can prove he purchased them I think that the OR has made the assumption that they were given to you as a gift as they are your initials.

How much do they want for plate?
