We are presently thinking of declaring BR, presently our bank account is with Nationwide, am I right in believing that we will have to change banks even though we dot owe any money to them?
I have seen a lot of people recommending the Coop Cashminder Account, should I open this type of account with them now or should I wait till the BR hearing has been completed. If opnening now will I have to tell them what wea re doing? Any help much appreciated.

Hi,

I had 7 accounts with Barclays when i went BR... I opened the Co-op Cashminder and that is fantastic - the bank is so friendly. (I only need 1 account at the moment!!)

Good luck whatever you do, Richard

Thanks for the reply. I will give them a couple of more days and if I have not received anything by then, I will give them a call.

It can take up to 10 days to receive the account details. You could always give them a call just to make sure everything is ok but it should be fine.

With the amount of people declaring BR at the moment they are probably very busy.

I applied for this account last Tuesday, but I still have not received anything from them. Does anyone know how long it takes for the paperwork to come through?

Thanks for the quick reply. Have done what you suggested and contacted them this afternoon. Have opened the account over the phone and explained to them that I am in the process of going BR. Everything was ok and he said I had been accepted for the account and the relevant paperwork will be coming out to me. The only thing I could not do over the phone, was make it a joint account but he said that would be done when it is open. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

You could call Nationwide and see if they will keep your account open once you are BR but chances are it will be closed so I would open a Co-op account now. There is no need to wait until you are BR and it means you can move any DD's, salary/benefit payments over before BR. When you open the account just tell them that you are about to declare BR and there won't be any problems.
