Posted - 24 September 2009 : 14:17:46 Just been declaired bankrupt and having trouble getting some sort of account where my wages can go into and my benefits. Unfortunately I owed two of the major banks money and Halifax won't even touch me and cancelled my account... The post office account is suitable but i have to keep at least £100 pounds in there which at the moment i'm not in a position to. Also i was told that Coop is good my my nearest store is 20 miles away... Any ideas?

As Melanie said, the Co-op Cashminder account is very good - staff are always helpful and they are very BR friendly
Good luck, Richard

Posted - 24 September 2009 : 14:30:26 You can open a basic bank account anywhere - provided they are not linked to your creditors. The Co-op Bank basic account you can open online which eliminates the problem of it being 20 miles away. The Co-op are recommended on the ite due to their pro stance on bankruptcy - some banks will not allow and account if you are an undischarged bankrupt. Another bank which allows a basic accounts with bankrupt's is the HSBC though I have no personal knowledge of this account some people on the forum have been able to open one
Natwest do a very good 'step' account - and Barclays also, your choice depends on who are debts are with
Hope this helps
