Hi carl01

I agree with Melanie.

The CAB will be able to assist you with your initial assessment of your situation.

Then if you need to take a route that involves another strategy - then use one of the insolvency experts on the forum - they are on the left hand side and amongst the best in the UK

Good luck, Richard

Most Citizens Advice Bureau's have an 'accredited money advisor' who can apply for a DRO for you if that is deemed your best route - cotnact your local branch and have a chat

Debt relief order seems the probable route. There may well be a long wait to get an appointment with an approved intermediary to help as there are limited organisations who can help.
Try calling a couple and see how you get on.

The books shouldn't be taken unless they are collectors items (i.e. 1st editions) and worth more than £500 or £1k each.

Does the debt you have include a Student Loan? If so this debt isn't written off in BR and you would still need to pay it.

If your total debt, not including a Student Loan, is less than £15k and you have limited income/assets then a DRO (Debt Relief Order) may be more suitable. There is information regarding DROs and their criteria at http://debtrelieforder.org.uk/commonly-asked-debt-relief-order-questions and companies that are approved intermediaries at http://debtrelieforder.org.uk/debt-relief-order-competent-authorities

Hi Carlo

the books should be alright unless they are limited editions and collectors items.

you should be able to keep them.

you will not be able to put your student loan into BR

as the debt is under 15K research debt relief order may be appropriate in circumstances

regards Richard
