My wife picked up a self assessment debt back in 2007. She is now being pursued by an HMRC debt collector for this but has no means to pay. I am the sole bread winner but went bankrupt myself on the 3rd July 2009 so can not pay either.
He has written on a letter that he will now instigate legal proceedings or get a bailiff to call.
Can you clarify whether he can ask a bailiff to come around before legal action?
If not is there somewhere I can report his behaviour as I can only see this as an attempt at intimidation, which he has kindly put in writing?
