hi

we went to court on monday(25/01/10) and were made bankrupt, the debt management company told us to open a new bank account with no overdraft etc, ehich we did.We dont owe any money to this bank but the recievers say we cant have it and are going to freeze it, is this what normally happens???

thanks

Hi Kev

Depends on what type of bank account it is. You are only allowed to have a very basic bank account no cheque book. The Co op cashminder account is acceptable in bankruptcy, so if you open that account you should have no problem. Sounds like the debt management company did not give you good advice on what type of bank account to open. There are not many banks out there who are bankrupt friendly.
