my husband and i are about to go bankrupt just plowing through the forms and filling them in, my question is about bank accounts, can we open a basic bank account before the bankruptcy or do we have to wait,

You can open a basic account whenever you want. Probably the best idea is to open the account a few weeks, or even a month, before declaring BR and you can transfer all of your DDs and income payments to the account to make sure there aren't any problems when your other, non-basic, account isn't closed.

the most BR friendly bank seems to be the COOP with the Cashminder account
