Greetings all.
After being in debt for 4-5 years and making some payments, missing others it culminated in me and my partner splitting up, her moving away and me sinking into depression and having a breakdown. All the debts are in my name (That's the way we wanted it, and still do.) so my ex and my kids arnt affected too much.
I'm guessing I owe about 30k and that's the real problem, ive never been great at being organised and when the breakdown happened (and before) I did the whole 'stick my head in the sand' and just kept hiding the letters from the collectors.
I have no idea who I owe what to any more, I used to have various phone calls from companies saying that they had taken over my account from such'n'such company.
I think i'm in a good position to declare bankruptcy as I have no assets, am crashing on friends sofa's as i'm kinda homeless and although i'm earning its not tons.
Is there any place, service, company that can help me find out how much and who I owe it to? I went to my local court and got the bankruptcy pack and there's soooo much information required that I just don't have?
Any advice would be great as dealing with any of this pushes me into depression.
Thanks in advance, Paul. |

You can check your credit file for all 3 agencies (Equifax, Experian and Call Credit) to see who your creditors are and how much you owe. You can request a statutory report from each agency for £2. |

Hi Paul
In addition, if you have decided bankruptcy is the best option, I would just put what information you can on the bankruptcy forms and file your petition ASAP.
If you can remember names of who you owe money to but not addresses or amounts, just put down your best estimate and explain the circumstances to the Court and OR
Good luck |

Paul well done for finally lifting your head out of the sand
I think from my perspective when i finally decided to go BR< iwas more at rest with my self and stopped beating myself up about previous wrong decisions.
just list all of the crditors that you have on a spread sheet, it does not really matter if you list the same debt 2 or 3 times.
most of the finance companies have their own in house debt collection agency and then if they do not get a response they sell the debt to a third party, who if they do not get a response sell on the debt again so your debts could have been passed onto many companies. The official receiver is aware of this
they will and do put pressure on you to pay by using different colour letter the threats of court, the threat of baliff visitors etc etc.
as Bridgewood states once you have made the decision get to court as soon as.
