Hi everybody.
I went to court this morning (no appointment needed, just had to turn up) and was officially made bankrupt at 11.30am. The judge was extremely friendly and told us that he's already seen 230 bankruptcies this year (!!!) and that there really is no stigma to it anymore. He also told us that we'll all sleep very well tonight now He had 8 cases/people in his court all at once because "we're all in the same boat and he'd only have to read out the same thing 8 times otherwise", but if anybody did object we could have seen him seperately afterwards. It was all completely painless and I'm now waiting for my OR appointment. And yes, I'm going to sleep very well tonight

welcome to the first day of your debt free life
Dave
Don't worry or know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum.(Baz Lurhman) RevivaUK and Paul Johns helped me through it all i can't recommend them enough!! |

Hi again. Sorry about the delay, loads to do since the OR let me keep my tiny self-employed business. Valetta, thanks for your wishes, not long to go and you'll be free too :-). Hi Jayne, I went to Croydon County Court, very nice and funny judge ;-) I have my telephone interview with the OR on Thurs the 4th March, bit nervous, but I hope it'll be ok. I guess it would be worse if I had to go to their office... Let me know how you get on Valetta :-)

Hi carol , glad you are ok , glad you are able to keep your buisness going cause you got to earn a living some how . My hubby went BR 14th jan had or call 2 weeks later they were really nice but he was very scared , but honesty is truley the best policy hun so just tell it how it is there main reason to call is to fully acertain what caused you to go BR . He recieved a letter 2 wks later stating official recievers meeting 3rd march , so still waiting !!!not heard anything else upto date. take care Jayne

Hi Carole, hope the OR interview goes well! lol my head is obviously in a right mess.....what did I post for my BR date? 1 week and a bit to go...nooooo! Its the 8th March...so is 1 week and a little bit today!! I swear Im losing the plot! Daily checks and re-checks of figures to keep track of the cash...its sending me crazy! I even went to work today and said to the receptionist...did I wear this top yesterday? Was absolutely convinced I had the same top on 2 days in a row...mortified! (I didnt hehe!!) Does bankruptcy = a loss of brain function???!! Anyway, was trying to message you privately...but I think theres no facility on this forum..?
Watching your progress with great interest as youre just that little bit ahead of me! Oh and HSBC are still calling with a vengence....:-) Got little panicky feelings and have done for the past few days....but there is no choice other than BR, so c'est la vie! Keep me updated each little step...it really is appreciated!

Hi Carol If you are anything like my wife and I you will be a bit worried about your forthcoming Interview... Dont be ! The OR was nothing like what we were expecting he put us at ease and seemed a decent guy. Hope yours is the same. Good Luck |

I was terrefied about the OR call , thought i was going to get "grilled" pretty much didnt ask me anything that wasnt already explained on my form, was just more of a chat for me really. The woman was nice aswel. I was expecting some head teacher type. Far from it

My meeting was more like an information gathering and checking exercise than grilling but i am fairly certain that if she suspected that i was hiding something (which i am not), the meeting could have been very stressfull
good luck next week |

Did they ask you or any other information at th meeting. I haven't got a clue where past bank statement s are. Usually shred them. Not sure if I'm going to need them now. Thanks |

During the interview I was asked to confirm:
- Credit card/loan account numbers - The amount I borrowed and what it was for. For the CCs I just said 'general day to day expenses' and this was fine - The monthly repayments of the loans - We discussed my car. The OR had already checked the value and said it was exempt from the BR as I needed it for work and it was only worth £1k. - We went through my I&E. The OR made a couple of changes (in my favour) and we agreed on an IPA amount.
I would have the SOA in front of you during the interview as we pretty much went through it from start to finish just to confirm details.
That was pretty much it and the call lasted just under an hour. I was more nervous about the OR's interview than declaring BR but they were very friendly.
The main thing to remember is to be completely honest with the OR and whatever your reason is for ending up in this position it isn't something the OR hasn't heard before.

hi drifter
just to clarify that Reviva provided the official receiver with a pack containing all of my debts and details.
The OR has the authority to search with the credit files and establish which banK accounts you have, the OR can request from the banks, statements etc but it is easier for the OR for you to produce the information.
you can only give the OR what you have, they will also ask for further information when they require it, if you do not have it that is fine as long as you are not being obstructive
regards Richard
