Just got the date through for my first appointment. I have had to wait until 14th April, i just hope i can keep my sanity with the phone calls wanting money.

What happens on the first appointment?

In most courts you take your forms in pay your fees, the clerk looks through the forms and sends them to the judge. The may or may not want to see you this only usually lasts a couple of minutes after which you are declared bankrupt. You then either speak to the OR straight away for about 5 min or they ring you back within a couple of days. there are regional variations but this is the general procedure.

BTW are you aware that the fees are increasing from 6th april

It is the OR later in the interview that goes through your debts and assets in further detail. all they are interested in at the court is that you are insolvent and that you understand the consequences of bankruptcy

Hi

As Richard P has said, call the Bankruptcy clerk and ask for the procedure to be explained to you.

For example, does the OR speak to you that day or do they contact you in a few days post the BO.

Do you normally see the DJ - does not matter if you do, they are fine and have a degree of understanding - even if you do see the judge, it wioll only be for 2 minutes (literally - hardly time to sit down!)

Good luck, Richard
