i am currently a single parent with a debt of £30,000. My home was repossessed last year and this was the shortfall. I work part time and am attending university. I claim child and working tax credit and i receive student loans. I am currently paying back £150 per month to my creditors through a financial statement plan. Would i be able to declare myself bankrupt? if so would the bankruptcy affect my ability to receive student loans?

you could declare bankruptcy, whether you should is something you should discuss with one of the debt charities, CAB, CCCS or national debtline.

It would not stop you receiving student loans

Hi Deb welcome to the forum

yes you could declare yourself bankrupt

your student loans would not be able to be included in bankruptcy debt. so you would still have to pay the debt after BR

As a bankrupt you would not be allowed to obtain more than £500 credit without informing the other party that you were bankrupt.

Students loans are all processed by a central point, it may be worth calling their help line but do n't tell them your name at this stage

good luck regards Richard
