My husband and I were declared bankrupt this afternoon. I can't tell you how relieved we both are.

The process was so straightforward. Never having been into a court before I really didn't know what to expect, but it was more of an office than a court room.

Our papers were checked and we swore an oath, paid our money and waited ten minutes while the Judge looked at our stuff (we never met him/her). It came back stamped and we were then taken into a room with the bankruptcy clerk (who was lovely). She rang the OR's office and gave them our details. We spoke to them each in turn, went through our bank account details, our car finance and confirmed our name, dob, address etc. They then said they'd be back in touch next week to sort out an interview and also that we could keep our current account open (it's with the co-op) so all our direct debits etc will be fine...we had kept £1000.00 in there which cover's the direct debits due out in May.

It's almost surreal that we are now debt free after years of worry and stress.

I hope this helps if you are worried about the court procedure....although I can definitely say I would never want to go through this all again!

Am going now, to pour ourselves a big glass of vino!

Will let everyone know what happens with the OR...xxx

Sunshine,

Well done, you are now in control of your life!

I have been discharged since December 08 and my life has never been better.

Enjoy the vino, you both deserve it.

Paul

Well done Sunshine. It's certainly a relief to know that you now have your finances under control after struggling for so long.

Thanks guys,

We've been waiting by the phone all weekend hoping one of our creditors would ring so we could share our good news!! Hahaha....how things change! Typically we have had not one call!

Am still anxious to get the OR bit over with and agree our IPA etc....but the relief is immense..

Will post back when I've heard from OR and let you all know how we've got on....

Onwards and upwards!
