Hi everyone
Had my OR interview yesterday and it lasted 30min. Was so nervous before the phone rang I was nearly sick.
The lady seemed quite young, but had obviously done these before and said not to be nervous...which calmed me a little. I was prepared to go through the WHOLE S.O.A but she hardly asked any questions at all..? My debt beeing quite old and havent used credit for years might have something to do with it?!?
-she asked me about my RTA compensation and if any of it was for loss of earnings. I answered honestly as all my comp money was purely for injury. She did ask if I had used some of my money and I answered honestly again and said general home things, the BR fee and few bills. She was happy with that.
-she asked about when I had last used credit or gotten a loan etc and she was stunned when I answered it is at least 6 years+ probably more close to 7 years!!
-she then asked why I had waited for so long to do this and I said I wanted to try and 'pay some of my dues' and did DMP for several years. She thought that was very good and agreed that since I'd be well in my 80's if i stuck to DMP it is better to do this. And I said I would love to get married and have children, but cannot bare the thought of this until I get past this bit.She thought that was an honest answer and it was!!
I was honest and said Id been a bit unfortunate with a few jobs that all closed not long into my emplyoment and just was honest about that I have felt so down and guilty about this for so long I now really need to move on with my life. She explained about the nil tax code and went through the income/outcome sheet. She explained about DI etc and even though she didnt say-I know I havent got over £100 DI. She seemed fine with all expenses altough she did think my car ins was a little low(oh and I get to keep my car!!)...and to let her know if its gone up this year.
At the end she concluded the call by stating my automatic discharge date but said she would recomend me for a early release and that I probably wouldnt get any letter regaring this-it would just happen. She then gave me her direct email+number and asked if my salary changed to inform her.
So,30 min later I sat there and wasn't quite sure how to feel..? Having spendt the last 8-9-10 years worrying about this and beeing scared of the hours between 6-8 and frightened of the door bell ringing.....it just felt unreal to have done this AND to have had the interview etc.
Is this it...I am so scared to even feel happy as Im convinced I'll suddenly get a call saying they are looking at some card statement from 6-7 years ago asking me why I withrew £50 and what was it used for...?? My OR didnt ask much about the debt...I really thought it would be much more specific and strict!?
Also-good news about Brighton OR and bank accounts= I was told that I can use any bank that debt is not connected to and as long as it doesnt involve over £500 credit. They are not interested in what bank you choose, its up to the bank if they accept you. So I can continue to use my STEP account and also the Coop is untouched.S She just made me aware that she would send a letter to all the mentioned accounts on the BR forms and they would be closed and should the bank I use now find out about the BR it is up to them to either keep me or advise me to leave etc.
So what happens now...??

Hi MW
thank you for sharing your experiences with others, welcome to a debt stress free future.
The OR may write to you in 6 months just to obtain an updated I & E.
apart from that it will probably take 4 - 6 weeks before all of your creditors get the message that you are BR.
so relax and start planning your future, keep a low profile for the year, if you get ED thats a bonus
congratulations Richard |

Hi MW,
Im so pleased it went well for you...........my interview was very similar to yours and I think honesty is definately the best policy as you have found.
I didn't get any forms to sign when I received my early discharge, all I got after the event was the court application stamped and a letter with it from the OR saying I had received early discharge.
Here's to your debt free future, and maybe you can celebrate your birthday this weekend now that the interview is out of the way.
Take Care

I'm glad it went well. I was like you, ill before the interview and thinking 'was that it?' afterwards.
The only reason I heard from the OR afterwards was because I moved house and my expenditure changed.

Thank you for posting and congratulations.
My Wife and I are approaching BR and at the moment are discussing how we can save the money for paying the BR fees. So hopefull within the next three to four months we can submit our BR forms.
I also appreciate you posting as it gives me an idea of what happens as I am very nervous about it and to be honest feeling very low and disappointed about the whole thing.

Hi everyone and thank you so very much for your replies.
I am still walking around in 'limbo' really. I am naturally more relaxed than I was a couple of weeks ago, but I still cant believe this is pretty much it.?!? My help from Reviva has been a true hero to me and keeps having to tell me to try and relax and that the OR offices around this country havent got the time to study the 'low' debt cases and since I did DMP etc....I hope maybe in a months time it will all sink in abit more. However,it is definately good to now know that when the door bell rings I dont have to completely panic! I will continue to post naturally....just need it to sink in a little.
I wish this whole country would know about this forum as it truly is a life support for us all here. How fantastic that we can all share our experiences and worries!! Without this I would have lost my sanity for sure!!
Speak to you all soon!

Hi Mostworried, I know exactly what you mean, it's a sureal feeling isn't it? I got my BR stamped only 2 days ago and am still waiting for the OR to contact me. I'm not sure what to expect - but after reading everyone's experiences on here, I feel slightly less nervous about it. My main worry I suppose is the BI on my home, we have neg euity and I am hoping my (soon to be x) will get to buy my BI as we are still friends. I'm in Northern Ireland and wonder what the procedure here will be regarding this.
I have woken up on Fri and today feeling relaxed for the first time in 10yrs also. Strangely today, I am totally exhausted and could sleep round the clock..... Must be all the stress letting go!!!!!!!
Good luck with the rest of your life. xxx enjoy.....
Regards, Golf88 |
