I declared bankruptcy in May 2004 and it was discharged in May 2005. I've just received a copy of my credit report and some of the debts that were included in the bankruptcy are still showing as having an outstanding balance month on month, after 6 years.

Would you know if this is right? Can the companies I owed money to keep them on there indefinitely? Or do I have a right to ask them to have these removed from my credit record?

Thanks for your help. :-)

hi david

you will need to send them a copy of your bankruptcy and or discharge letter, they should be removed by now.

you may have to put aside half a day to talk to all of the banks. good luck

regards Richard

The debts should only stay on your credit file for 6 yrs from the BR date so they should be removed. There is a template you can use at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=677875
