Just wondering how this affects mobile phone contracts. I assume the contract would be cancelled, but would the phone, which might be worth several hundred pounds even secondhand, be seized by the OR? Or would it be returned to the mobile operator? Would a bankrupt be able to transfer their number from the contract to a prepaid simcard on another network?

If you don't owe the phone company any money, then there is no reason why you will not be able to keep your contract. I still have mine with O2. I didn't tell them i war BR as i owe them no money and couldn't see what it had to do with them anyway. If you don't owe them, don't rock the boat. It will also help to build up your 'good' credit record too. Speak to your OR if you want but mine didn't contavt O2 and told me my phone contract was fine. So try not to worry. Good luck.

Golf88 is right, and I didn't mention my mobile contract as it was up to date and I wanted to keep it.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 - it's over at last!

Adding on to this question Tracey, my contract was renewed in October for 2 years @ £35 a month, our court date is 10th Dec... will this affect my contract as it will be over the £500 threshold, or does it only apply for new contracts taken out whilst BR?

Hi Sarah

I has exactly the same issue when renewing my Orange mobile phone contract with them 6 weeks ago. I didn't owe them any money, always paid my D.D on time........

They were unaware when I renewed my contract that I was currently BR and I didn't tell them as I wanted to keep this contact running long term to start to improve my credit rating after BR.

If you look half way down the forum list there is a post called

'Orange Mobile Phone Contract - Renewal'

There is alot of information that might help you and answer some of the questions you may have.
