Dear Forum Users
Hope you are well.
I was discharged from BR in January 2010. Yay!
I'm now getting round to trying to 'clean up' my credit files - I've got a copy of my credit files from the 3 Credit Reference agencies and all of the debts in my BR are showing up as 'Default', and I have a couple of questions:
1. How does one go about getting a 'Discharge Notification'?
2. Does anyone know the correct address for the Data Controller for Egg Card?
3. Does the Discharge Notification need to be sent to the 3 Credit Reference agencies also?
4. How long does the whole process take?
5. Does anyone have any other tips on cleaning up your credit files?
If someone could get back to me on these questions that would be very much appreciated.
Cheers. |

Hi,
Don't forget that the BR will remain on your credit file for six years from the original date.
I believe that any defaults registered after the date of BR will need to be removed, otherwise leave them and they will drop off after six years anyway.
I think that if you haven't got a copy of your discharge notice then you will have to pay for it and it's not cheap.
Buckle your seat belt Dorothy, 'cos Kansas is going bye bye.

Congratulations on being discharged!
I'll try and answer your questions in order:
1. You need to contact the court where you were made BR with all your details, and there is a charge of around £60 (although this may have increased).
I've never bothered, I just printed the screen from the insolvency register showing that I was discharged. This only stays on the register for 3 months from your discharge date, so if you didn't print it off you will need to buy a certificate.
2. I googled and found this:
DATA CONTROLLER'S DEPT. EGG BANKING PLC. CITIGROUP CENTRE 33 CANADA SQUARE LONDON E14 5LB
3. I didn't send my discharge details to the credit reference agencies as they had already marked my file as discharged.
4. How long is a piece of string?!?! Seriously, it depends whether the creditors play ball or not. If they do it should be a fairly quick procedure, but if you have to refer them to the Information Commissioner it could take a long time. I know a while back they had a backlog of at least 6 months.
5. Make sure you send everything Recorded Delivery as if you need to refer a creditor to the ICO you will need proof that you have already contacted them.
And make sure you keep copies of everything!
Good luck!

Thanks very much everyone for getting back to me. I will try this and hopefully get there in the end.
Is it not possible to get a document from the OR to prove that I've been discharged from the BR? |

You can apply for a discharge certificate from the court that declared you BR however this costs about £60. |
