You should check with the firm who is providing the assistance but normally their fee is purely for their assistance and not for the BR fee.
Is your BR case particularly difficult? If not then there really isn't any need for the assistance and you can get all of the help you need completing the forms, making the BR appointment, etc. on this forum for free. £350 is a lot of money when you also have to save the BR fee especially when you may not need to pay it. |

I would imagine that you would have to pay the £600 court fee as well. £350 is quite cheap(compared to other companies) so I would agree that that is purely for the assistance. The BR assistance company have no direct link to the court too.
You do not need to use a BR assistance company at all and you can do all the forms yourself. You can get free assistance from National Debtline and CAB amongst others but that is generally over the phone.
Despite this I personally did use a BR assistance company purely because I found the forms quite hard to fill out and I nearly killed myself with stress filling it out. I employed a BR assistance company which, although not essential, really helped out putting my mind at rest. They are also helping me out with support during my bankruptcy to.
I can't advise you specifically to use a BR assistance company as it is purely down to the individual. I used them purely for peace of mind and I couldn't recommend them enough. Don;t think I'm allowed to post their name put they post on this site and therefore trustworthy.
Either it's always good to get advice, in whatever form, before going through bankruptcy.

Hi
you can get help with the following:-
1. companies to help with the filling in the forms
generally £350 - £750 . The Forum has a good offering with advice and form filling.
2. You can make an appointment for the CAB to help with forms but they are limited to time.
3. You can get help with questions from other charities via the phone. lengthy process over a period of time with numerous questions. They may be limited on the actual procedures as they change per court / OR office etc.
4. You can obviously use the Forum to assist on individual questions and experience from others is always useful and supportive. This is one of the few forums that is not judgemental.
5. A Bankruptcy Assistance company is different to the above. They are likely to offer face to face meetings, full preparation of documents, defence at court for ccj's & charging orders etc, attendance at court for Br, attendance / preparation for the OR interview, support throughout the Bankruptcy period. Probably the most important is the pre Br strategy and emotional support.
Also on fees the court fee is always paid to the court and wouldnt be included in the £350 fee.

Personally the most that I would pay is for help to complete the forms as they can seem daunting. With the help of the forum and the free advice offered by the experts most bankruptcies are straightforward enough that assistance isn't necessary.
Like many other people on here I did it all myself with the help of the experts on the IVA forum (I'm not sure if this forum was here then, if so there wasn't so many experts posting) and the moral support from my partner.

Personally, I wouldn't pay but I can understand why some people want help. They can get it FOC from forums such as these but I'd pay no more than £350.

The forms were designed to be completed by the debtor themselves, so 'assistance' is not required, although advice is strongly recommended, but this can be given by the forum, experts, like me will be only too happy to help with queries or concerns, and many people in similar situations or further along the proces will help by letting you know what they put in a particular section etc.
All I would advise is to set aside a couple of hours, sit down in a quiet room with all your documents to hand and slowly go through the forms, they really are not difficult once you start, just very daunting! Complete everything in pencil first,you will find that you have to repeat a lot of information, ie list all your unsec creditors, nect page list all credit cards... it can seem that you are stating the same thing in 2 or 3 areas, which sometimes confuses people, but just work your way through.
If stuck on anything, or want to have expenditure checked please come through to the forum, people will be only too happy to help
Please remember NOT to sign or date the forms, this myust be done when you are at the court (and take 2 copies with you)
