Hello all,
I have just got a cooperative cash minder account and I would like to know it anyone has had problems making on-Line payment using there Visa-Electron card. I have had this card about a week now and no-one has accepted payment using this card on-line or over he phone. I have been to the cash machine and withdrawn cash and made payments with it in shops but had no luck with it on-line. Can anyone help? Co-op say theres no problem there end and the websites say they accept visa-electron I'm at a loss...
Thanks John |

I've been able to use my card online, although there are certain organisations that do not accept the electron type |

it just might be the type of retailer you are using.
I know that easy Jet and Travelodge don't use them.
perhaps you might need to get a pre payment credit card as well if you use a lot of internet activity etc

Hi In theory you should be able to use a visa electron card wherever you see the visa logo.
But in practice this is not always the case as Tesco take it instore but not online however i have paid online at HMV / ARGOS / AMAZON / SAINSBURYS and paid my rent / council tax without any problems.
I have heard that if you select visa card on some websites where they do not have electron as a payment option this often works.

Hi all,
If you think of "electron" as "diet visa", you'll get the general idea. As Paul says, there are a number of card companies offering pre-pay credit cards which would suit your purpose.

I've got a Visa Electron and I haven't had too many problems so I think it just depends which sites you are ordering from. I've got a Tuxedo Maestro that I use if Visa Electron isn't accepted. |

I applied for my card as soon as I applied for an IVA and everywhere has excepted it so far, I did also get a Virgin pre-paid mastercard as a backup but the charges on these are it cost me £14 to transfer £400 on to the card at a paypoint and I get charged everytime for using it, that's why it's just a back-up. |

I pay £4.95 a month for the Tuxedo card and I can use it as many times as I want.

Hi John,
It does seem to be unsual to have to problems you're facing. Perhaps speak to the bank and get a replacement card?

I think I had a problem registering it to my Paypal account, but I never looked into it as I used my prepaid card. I'll have another go and let you know!

I had no problem registering with paypal with this account, use the set up bank account option instead of debit card and all will be OK ;-) it sets up a DD instruction with the cash minder. |

Hi iv had no problems with my visa electron, and iv never had any refusals on any thing as yet,my card is also registred in pay pal and had no probs their either,if u registra the sort code and bank details in ur paypal account it will take longer for ur payments to get to the sellers, but if u registra ur long card numbers in paypal only as u wud with a visa it will pay ur sellers instantly ,so i rec theirs a prob with ur card, wen i had trouble with one of my top up cards it wud let me pay on line but i cudnt get any cash out from cash point after many phone calls to the card company they realised that they hadnt activated the cash point side but had activated the pay on line side so give them another ring and dont get off until they sort it and dont forget to use the SAY NO TO 0800 site and see if theve got free numbers ur get throu instantly as their be paying for the call good luck with it jill
