Hi, I have my court appearance on Wednesday 2nd March and I'm not quite sure how to prepare. I have 3 copies each of my Form 6.27 Debtor's Bankruptcy Petition, and Form 6.28 Statement of Affairs and a wad of £600 cash to pay the court. Do I need anything else? I would also like to hear any stories from anyone who has been through this stage so that I know roughly what to expect during my 'appointment'. Another thing, which might sound stupid and I apologise, but, what sort of dress code for the Court - do I dress business smart, business casual, or smart casual? I've got an amazing suit that I used for job interviews, but feel that may be a bit over the top? How do I address the Judge - is it Sir/Madam, or what? Thanks. Widge x |

Hi widge
which court ? as they all differ
Paul at reviva has a court guide on his web site http://www.revivauk.com/local-courts.aspx,
if your court is not listed then after court email Paul with updated information.
Dress smart comfortable,

Hi Richard, It is Bristol County Court. I won't wear my 'amazing' suit then, and just wear something smart/casual as suggested. Widge |

Hi Widge,
Generally, but as Richard says they are all slightly different, you will have to see a clerk who will check your forms, get you to sign some forms & then take your money. The clerk will not ask you any questions about your BR, they are there to do the paperwork. Your forms then go to the court clerk (We had to take our own!) who then hands them to the Judge. You may have to see the Judge, again it depends on the day, the court & the Judge in question. We didn't have to see Her but I think they just ask if you understand the severity of BR & its consequences. Maybe another forum member could offer a little more information on this point?
In all we were at the court for about half an hour & walked out debt free and just a little bit like rabbits caught in the headlights!!
It is a rather surreal experience but not a degrading one as I imagined it to be. Although I was convinced that everyone knew why we were there. In reality they are all there for their own reasons and have too much on their own minds to concern themselves with anyone else.
Smart comfortable is a good way of describing a dress code so you can keep your 'power' suit hung up.
Good Luck with the 2nd!
