hi everyone can you help me?I am over 10years on from my bankruptcy,i need some clarification on form filling,i am very happily remarried my bankruptcy was not in my new married name, when applying for household insurance, when asked have you ever been declared,do i now have the right, not to disclose this if i dont want to?i thought after this length of time i didnt have to but i want to know where i stand legally,i feel its a sort of principle thing, that i dont want to be tarred with the label for the rest of my life,if i declare that i was a bankrupt am i still going to be penalised with inflated quotes after all this time?i dont want to be in the position that if we were burgled,we would not be able to claim through my non disclosure,i have not yet applied for a joint mortage either as i didnt want my husbands credit to be affected by my past,so any help on that would be great as well.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are asked if you have ever been BR you will have to answer yes, otherwise you run the risk of invalidating your insurance. I don't know if you will get inflated quotes, but when my OH contacted our insurers to say I'd been discharged the premium was reduced, so it might not make too much of a difference.

I'm not sure about mortgages, but I would have thought that after this time you would be ok although, again, you will need to disclose the BR if asked.
