Well dont the best laid plans all fall to the wayside??
Just to put you in the picture. Baxk in Feb this year, Hubby and I decided that BR was our only option after our situation slowly declining into melting point with debts and ever decreasing income. We had what I thought was a plan that would take us through to BR in August. We moved out of our Mortgaged house and are about to hand the keys in. We are now in rented accommodation, so far so good. We intended to save towards BR between April - Aug. However, So far we have zlich saved. it has come to the point where we have absolutely no excess income we can save towards BR at all. We wont be entitled to any help towards fees as we are both working (I wonder why sometimes). It just seems that its getting harder and harder to live on the money we have coming in and I cant tighten the outgoings any more.
Sorry for the moan, I just feel in despair if it all now. Its like a few months ago we felt we had a way out of this pit but now we feel trapped completely. We would both have to go BR and to raise 1400 feels impossible. I have no relatives I can ask to lend us the money. I have just finished an application to British Gas Trust Fund but from what i have heard, I dont hold out much hope. I was also thinking of applying to Severn Trent Water.
Can anyone tell me if they have applied to these (or any other company) for assistance, and if so what was the outcome.
I fully accept that I should pay to make myself BR, the truth is, I just cant. Im feeling really down about this at the moment

So Sorry that things aren't working out Crazee.
Have you got anything that you can sell? Having a good clear out and getting the stuff on ebay might get you some money. I know it might not be the £1400 but it's a start.

Hi Vik Thats exactly what im doing at the moment - selling selling selling on ebay. Dont stand still anyone else you will be auctioned, bubble wrapped and posted off for the miserly sum of 99p, + P&P of course, lol. Seriously, I have quite a lot of stuff to put on so could make a couple of hundred to get us started. Im posting off our app to British Gas trust tomorrow and will make an application to Severn Trent as well just to see if they can help in any way at all. Meanwhile to wolves are well and truly closing in on us. Getting scarey now folks

Are you currently paying any money each month to any credit cards? If so, and you still have credit remaining, some people stop paying these for a month or so and save the money for the bankruptcy fees instead. Obviously this will mean the credit card companies will phone you endlessly until you are declared bankrupt, but it is an option if you have no other savings available.

I hope you can get help. The only other thing you can do is wait and let one of the creditors make you bankrupt.
As regards phone calls - change your number and go ex directory and they won't be able to contact you. If you have any online accounts with your creditors then go in now and remove any contact numbers on there.

So sorry to hear of your problems Crazee67.
Are you members of any unions? They usually have welfare funds to assist with BR.
Do try the Water Companies. We applied to United Utilities (Water Board) for assistance but they couldn't assist retrospectively (we applied after BR) but they then sent us a cheque for what we had paid in the year prior to when we went BR!!!
Good Luck
ps. Ya don't get much for things on Ebay do you??

you dont have to go BR at same time
it can put creditors off the scent for a while if you go at diff times
worked for me
Good Luck Richard,

Haven't posted for a while but hubby and I are in exactly same position regarding saving for the fees since I gave up work to care for my daughter and grandchildren following a bleed on her brain. We had the idea that we could save the carers allowance I should be entitled to but there is such a back log with claims for DLA etc this just hasn't happened yet so at the moment there is absolutely no spare cash at all to put aside for the fees. We have decided to let hubby go bankrupt first but other than not paying any bills for one month can't imagine how we will find the fees otherwise. Even though most of our debts are joint ones is it ok to go bankrupt at different times? |

I don't there is a problem with that. You will find though that you will be chased by the creditors for the joint debts until you go bankrupt as well.

Hello - I changed both my home and mobile telephone numbers then paid each of my creditors £1 a month for 3 months and used the surplus money for the BR fees. The only contact I subsequently had from 8 creditors was one visit from a debt collection agency about a month after I went BR which was then too late for them to do anything. Good luck, Pete. |

A Debt collection agency can do nothing anyway. You can refuse to speak to them and you don't have to make any payments at all to them.
