Hello all
Just thought I would give everyone up update on my progress following my A.D 3weeks ago. I have now written out to all my creditors asking them to update their records so my credit profile will be correct. Barclays were one of my creditors and for some reason you have to take your discharge notice in to your local branch to have it stamped and they update your records there and then.
Whilst I was in there the personal banker asked why I no longer banked with them and with the CoOp since Barclays are one of the BR friendly Banks. I explained that they were one of my creditors and I didn’t think they would let me. The chap in branch said that Barclays are now having a push to become the most BR friendly Bank in the Country and they will be starting a new campaign soon to push this (I get the feeling that with the current economic climate that they might be expecting a few more people declaring themselves BR this next year or so)
Whilst I was in branch I applied for and got accepted for a current account, a regular savings account and a mini cash ISA. All the accounts can be managed online and even using an app on these smart phones.
Apparently I would have been allowed to open the current account and regular savings account during my 12months BR as well, even though they were one of my creditors.
I love banking with the CoOp but I am more than happy now to have a spare current account but more importantly a savings account so I can start trying to put some money away now each week/month, especially since the CoOp wont open me a savings account yet for some reason.

That's good news Carl. It's good to hear of a bank apart from the Co-op pushing to be BR friendly. I know Barclays always have accepted bankrupts, but there were some funny terms and conditions - I seem to remember people not being allowed telephone or internet banking if they were BR.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.
Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side. |

How very silly! Why on earth would you not be able to do that?
I do wonder at some of these companies sometimes.

I think it's crazy that you cannot open a savings account with the coop. I got the same response. It's not as if we are asking for anything - we want to give THEM money not vice versa. Surely there's no way to go overdrawn or abuse it?
Instead I have to have 3 current accounts with them for different things!
Thank you for the update Carl :)

I was refused a savings account with the Co-op but once I was discharged I appealed the decision and eventually got an account.

I think with the Co-op it is the fact that they don't think you should be able to be in a position to save money if you have gone BR or are doing an IVA.
Stupid thing is that you can normally open another Cashminder account to put savings in!!

I now also have an ISA account with CO-OP
think you have to go throught eh familiarisation and proove that you are a good client
Co-OP are starting to enforce the 3 strikes rule, ie if your account goes over drawn 3 consecutive months, they will consider withdraw of the account ! Harsh but you can understand they are trying to reeducate our money habits
Co-op are also great for all the insurances as they do not credit checks, they use your bank account as a point of reference
Good Luck Richard,

I think the Co-op have always done the 'three strikes and you're out' there have been several posters on the sister forum who have mentioned this.
