Hi all,

Are you able to give me some more advice - this might sound a bit weird.

I have been really stressed recently due to a few things including my BR (end March 2011 so ages until AD), trying desperately hard to hold onto my job and work moving their location so I have to drive 40 miles a day and sit in solid traffic.

As a result of this stress I have come out in really bad acne. I've seen the doc and he has given me some cream (Adapalene) which has had a really bad (but not unexpected) side effect. My skin feels like it is burning (this is no exaggeration, it feels like I have just rubbed acid into my skin) and putting anything on it makes it burn even more. I am aware all day of the pain and have taken to painkillers to dull the pain. My skin is peeling off and bright red in many places and my eyelids and eye sockets are also incredibly sore and flaking badly (I'm putting the cream no where near my eyes so I can't figure out why the eye problem is happening). The whole area around my eyes is red too due to this soreness.
Basically, I look a mess.

I've seen a dermatologist and he has told me when it hurts or i feel like rubbing it to take away the pain to put a good moisturiser onto it. As its hurting most of the time I'm constantly putting moisturiser on it. This is also the best way to get rid of the skin scaling / peeling off. My usual moisturiser stings way way too much (it's like acid) so i've had to buy a few different ones so can swap around and use according to how much pain i'm in and where I am (the really thick gloopy one is saved for then i'm at home). I've also had to get some mineral makeup to cover it up when I am at work as my old makeup burnt too (I have to wear make up as I work in a very corporate professional job and can't go in barefaced, it would be wrong! I have to be polished as hell and having bright red bits isn't polished).

My question is, if / when the OR sees my bank statements, will she be mad with me? I'm thinking that it's not as if I just WANT to buy these things, I needed to get a really good quality moisturiser and keep buying creams over the counter at boots (hydrocortisone etc) to help with my eye socket issue. I've tried cheaper brands but I need something mega moisturising, non allergy causing and gentle that will not make things worse (the cheaper ones are often filled with nasty chemicals that only make things worse).

If someone could give me some re-assurance that would be great. This amount is coming out of money I should be saving for other things such as insurance / tax and of course food. I'm just now getting stressed about the extra cost and that i'll be in trouble.

Many thanks for all your help, and I'm sorry to write so much again,

From the girl with the burning chin :(

Hi Essie,

Sorry you're having to go through this, it sounds awful.

The OR won't have any interest in your purchases.

I hope it clears up soon.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

Hi Essie

hope you get sorted out soon

as others have said the OR will be sympathetic, list everything you spend down to bus fare and car park tickets to go and visit the doctor.

stress affects us all in different ways.

A friend of mine came out in a very similar skin condition, she swares by Aromatic therapy (if you live around Wilts / Hampshire I can give link)

Good Luck Richard,
