Hi Karen,

Can you please post a few more details about your situation.

Do you own a home with your new spouse, or have any joint accounts?

Are you thinking of bankruptcy?

I don't joint own any property with my new partner
I owe my house which is vacant
We have a joint bank account but nothing in there!
I have had a bankruptcy order placed on me and my vacant house
What should I do?
Will this affect my new partner or anything he owns ?

As you have a joint account, you are financially associated so the credit agencies will have this information which may affect his credit rating.

If the joint account is in credit, then depending on how much is in there (eg, savings) then the official receiver may want your half.

The bank account may be frozen so it may be best that your husband opens a new fresh bank account.

His belongings and assets will be safe if they were bought by him.
