I got a call from a debt collector for a debt I had back in 1994 for a student loan. I never heard from anybody since 1994 and now they are demanding £6000, which i believe is wrong to begin with. I would appreciate some help with this.

Im pretty sure after 6 years they cant chase you anyway.. I think the records must be destroyed in line with DPA?

They have NO chance 18 years later!

Hopefully one of the experts will be able to advise - I think the statute of limitations does apply to student loans but I'm not certain.

And just to confirm, the statute of limitations is 6 years for most debts and 12 years for mortgage related debts.

Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.

Having had a look at another forum it appears that it is covered.

Write them a letter telling them that it's statute barred but don't acknowledge that you are liable for the debt.

Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be alright
'Cause there's no one like you in the universe
