Hi, I'm petitioning first thing tomorrow morning. I get JSA, so am only expecting to pay £525. I have my last 3 months bank statements, but the most recent letter I can find from the benefits agency is dated 11th April (i.e. more than a month ago). I do really get it, I'm not trying to pull a fast one, and I have a signing-on book with an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. There's no time to get a letter from the benefits agency.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN???????
Will they just take my £525 and tell me to bugger off, will they charge me the £175 (which I don't have), will they be happy with proof forwarded after tomorrow? I'm in a spin! |

Unfortunately, you will need to pay the full fee of £700 and then when you get your letter from the job centre, you can claim the £175 back.
Or if you can't get the money for tomorrow, then phone then and rebook it, allowing time to get your letter.

| Thanks. Do you know how quickly they process refunds once the letter has been obtained? Do they just give cash at the court? |

Sounds like it would be better to reschedule?
Have you sought advice from CAB or from anywhere else on how to petition and whats required? |

| Oh yeah, I thought I had everything I needed - it was only when I looked at the letter I realised it was dated earlier than I thought. If I reschedule I will have a nervous breakdown, so a family member is going to pay the 175! |

Thanks - I'm actually feeling sick now! Even though I know my forms are right, I worry that they are wrong (if that makes sense?!?), and I'm terrified for the OR interview because I hardly have any paperwork and all my answers for what I spent the money on will be "I dunno, er, stuff" cos I have bugger all to show for it!

When I petitioned there were 6 of us at court that day.
I was nearly last to go in, and everyone before me came out with a beaming smile!
I had an interview a couple of hours after my meeting with the judge, although thats not the 'norm'.
It usually happens over the telephone a few days later by all accounts.
As for the paperwork,I guess thats a bridge you'll have to cross when/if you meet it.

If you haven't any paperwork, the OR can request it directly from the creditors, so don't worry too much.

| Well, so far so good! Went to court this morning, was out within 45 mins and didn't have to see the judge. I didn't have to pay the £175. I suspect it's because my JSA is contribution-based, so I fell in the low income category rather than the approved benefits category? Waiting for the first OR call now. Not these days - people rarely see one. The paperwork is taken into court and rubber stamped usually.
