My Car is on finance will the courts be able to take it?

I am a teacher will I still be able to work as a teacher?

How long does this stay on my file?

Am I aloud to keep my bank accounts?

Please can you send me any information that you think will help me.

Kind regards,

Hi Dina and welcome,

How much is your car worth?
How much is outstanding on payments?
Do you need it for work?

You can still work as a teacher as far as I know and wouldnt have to reveal it unless its in your contract?

You would end up with a nil tax code, but there are various reasons why you can end up with that other than bankruptcy.

You are automatically released after one year, as long as there's no complications.

Stays on your credit file for 6 years.

The official receiver will want copies of your bank accounts, I gave them copies and they were happy with that.

Hope that helps for now?

Hi, it would be adviseable to open a new bank account with a non creditor. The Co-op come recommended and I belie e Barckays are quite amenable as,well.

There's an awful lot of chit chat about bank accounts if you trawl through recent posts.

They've all got pros and cons.

Even down to different branches how they will treat you. The thing is, you can't really just go in and ask!

Personally, I never actually had an account 'closed' down, but I was quite proactive with my bank and the Official Receiver (OR).

Barclays are ok. I went into them before going bankrupt asking for a basic account.

They gave me that, and I've never used it. It also included internet banking.

The main thing with most of the banks, is they give you the most basic, or downgrade the account you have, so that the only place you can draw cash out of a machine is in one of their cash machines.

I still use my account online, and to pay for shopping etc as I did before, ie by card at the checkout.

I'm with Nationwide and have their basic account but can use the card anywhere and at any cashpoint.

After many years and seeing thousands of cases i can tell you that the only 2 banks that offer free accounts and also have a direct and clear policy of offering bank accounts to bankrupts are the co-op and barclays, now there are other banks that do but they vary in their approach over time circumstance and location which is why we recommend the co-op and barclays because it is guaranteed that if you fit the well known criteria they will give you an account

I didn't think you were, it just mightve given the impression to the OP that Nationwide account was ok to use anywhere. (They may be with Nationwide as well).

I know that Tracey had a Nationwide account whilst BR and had no problems with it. I believe their basic accounts are all the same now and have a debit card.

I think Natwest have a restricted card.

That was quite a while ago though?

And she could use her card in any cash machine?

Yes, it was a full account. Mine is basic and initially had just a cashcard but I could still use that in any machine. They then upgraded them to debit cards.

My experience of quite a few different accounts is different.

Accounts were downgraded to basic accounts which mean you can only use them in their own cash machines. No great hardship.

And I can shop normally with them, and online.

The buiding society accounts I had, I can only use them in branch itself.

I only have the one building society account but its improved rather than got worse.

Co-op are one of the best for BR.

Niobe is right, I had a basic account with Nationwide while I was BR and I could use the card in any cash point. I still have the account and now have a debit card with the account.

The more I have to do with humans the more I think that the world would be a better place if it was run by animals.

Last IPA payment made on 28th June 2010 and I'm now looking forward to getting married in September 2012 - I'm proof that you can go BR and come out the other side.
