Hi, I was made bankrupt in July 2007 and automatically discharged after 12 months. And I have a few questions if anyone could help me.

I know the bankruptcy stays on my credit file for 6 years, but is this 6 years from the date of bankruptcy or the date of my discharge?

Do I have to do anything to clear it off my credit file or will it be done automatically?

I have recently sold my house (no equity, no BI so was allowed to keep it) and I have recently moved in with my partner. The mortgage on the new house is in his name only, but I will be paying half the mortgage and bills. His mortgage is with Santander and we were wondering if after the 6 years are up, would they allow him to add me to the mortgage? Also we would like to set up a joint bank account in order to put an equal amount of money in each month to cover all the household bills. But would a joint account and my BR affect his credit rating?

Sorry for so many questions, but thanks in advance for any replies!

Hi,

It's 6 years from when your bankruptcy order was made, not discharge date.

I advise you wait to get any joint finances of any kind until the bankruptcy has dropped off your file as it will affect your partner's credit rating.

Hi and welcome.

The six years is from the date the BR was declared and will drop off automatically.

Check your credit records to make sure there are no defaults registered after the date of BR and if there are then you need to get them removed.

Just make sure that at the moment you don't have any joint finances - give him half of the money but pay it into his account at the moment.

You could always make an anonymous call to Santander to see if you are able to go onto the mortgage.
