I was declared bankrupt end of 2008.
When people say 2014 ---- the bankruptcy will have dropped off my credit rating? What is the significance of this statement? What does it actually mean? Many thanks Angie

Hi Angie,

Credit reference agencies hold the information for 6 years, so if you were to apply for credit, it will show you have been bankrupt, but after the 6 years, it disappears from your credit files.

This is good for people who may want to apply for credit again, such as mobile phone contracts, mortgages, car finance etc.

So someone has set a marker of 6 years and then says that person can apply for credit again? 4 years down the line I still can't get a permanent job. I only have a state pension to rely on which I get when I am 66. I am late 50's now. Very difficult to get work at my age. But I am thankful I have Job Seekers and can live a simple life. No holidays, don't smoke or drink. But its better than what it was before 2008.

You can apply for credit before the 6 years if you've cleaned up your credit file and some people may need this for example for car finance.

A lot of people who have gone bankrupt don't need or want credit.

Ive found that when you have no debts living on £77 a week is very doable. it makes you realise.

Yes And it's actually £71 for Employment Support Allowance. And for a family it's £111 a week.

fair play.

bit pointless for me though. I live close to the only cell in this area and even though it also serves a motorway it gives me download the same as and upload better than my landline BB.
