Hi, I was made bankrupt in May/2012 and as May/2013 approaches i would like to know what is involved in the lead up to my potential discharge date?... Am i automatically dischaged or will i receive paperwork, etc prior to discharge? Thanks. |

Very little
at about the 6 - 9 month mark the OR will normally ask for a new income and expenditure Just to confirm that you will not be getting an IPA (income payment agreement)
some regional offices will conclude your file / enquiries early and write to you with offer of an early bankruptcy discharge.
Do NOT call or pressurise the OR for early discharge
at the stroke of midnight you check the insolvency register and it will automatically be updated. Print off a number of copies
That is it , you are discharged and debt obligations free
bit of an anti climax really
Good Luck Richard,

Just 5 weeks, or so, to my discharge date on the 8th May and i've not had anything from my OR.........could my discharge happen without any prior contact from the OR or will i definitely hear from them before my discharge date? |

If it's an automatic discharge then you won't hear anything at all. On the day of discharge then check the Insolvency Register to make sure it is on there. I'd recommend that you print off the notice in case you need it in future.
I take it you have no IPA in place? |

No ipa, my income is low so i have a tax NT code and pay any estimated tax due to moonbeever. What is the criteria for automatic discharge? |

Automatic discharge will occur twelve months after the date of BR. As you have no IPA then that will be it.
The BR will be on your credit record for six years since the date the order was applied.
You should go back onto normal tax code this next tax year. |

Just received notice from moonbeever that they have received my last payment due to them and they have now returned my file to the OR for a 'final review'. |

The BR will remain on your credit record for six years from the date of the BR, there is nothing you can do about that.
If you wish to inform them that you have been discharged then you can do so for a fee of £2 to find out what is on there - Call credit, Equifax and Experian. You can always send a copy of your discharge off to them so they know that you have been discharged.

nail & board up the mailbox !
the OR does not normally work weekends and you have a bank holiday so that eats uptime
it is also midnight going into the day you petitioned for bankruptcy that the year ends.
I think you can say the big lady is doing her final warm up and approaching the arena before she sings..
Good Luck Richard,
