my husband and i are filing for bankruptcy on 20th august with the help of the citizens advice bureau. We are having hassle from our bank regarding money outstanding. We've written to them twice explaining what was going on and have even spoken to them on the telephone. I was advised by them to contcat them again with the bankruptcy reference number but the bank still call me. Is there anything I can do to keep them off my back?
This is severely causing my marriage to breakdown and we constantly fight. Its also distressing as we have a 3month old baby.
can you help us with any advice?

Hi ide30, Sorry to hear about this. I went through it as well getting 30+ phone calls a day before i went bankrupt. You could try barring certain numbers, your phone company can usually do this. I took the phone off the hook for 2 weeks at one point. You can also tell them on the phone that you only want to correspond through the post. Someone also told me that when they ask you for your security details before disclosing why their phoning, say "I don't wish to give out my personal details over the phone as I don't know who you were." I did this a few times and they couldn't get off the phone quick enough. Try not to let it get to you too much (I know its easy to say) and I hope everything works out ok. It'll feel like a big relief when its all done xx |

Hi ide30 unfortunately and despite your repeatedly informing your creditors that you have a date for bankruptcy, quite a few take little notice until you can provide them with your bankruptcy number and the details of the official receiver's office handling your case. I'd also go along with sue08 in that being in financial difficulty is bad enough. Don't let the constant harassment affect your marriage it is so not worth that. I know that telling the caller you are someone else or refusing to answer their security question will do the trick but no matter how many times you say it they still keep calling. One fullproof way is to change your number. If you have mobiles, pay as you go sims are usually free so change them for a few weeks only informing your nearest and dearest of the temporary numbers then unplug the landline.

Hi There Just reading this post. I too changed my phone number on my mobile and also used the bt ans service to go to auto answer for a few weeks till we get the BK hearing. My date is Monday and wow i am soooooo nervous now but i have done the forms, got the money, got a big file full of statements, letters and also agreements (The ones i can find) and have copied it all so that i have my own info after the OR meeting and once we are discharged. dont let it wreck your marriage, work together in the first few weeks of making the decision to go BK my OH and i were at logger heads then over time things started to get clearer for both and now we are fine., Took some talking and like you say fighting well not phsyically but we are nearly there. Me finding this site has helped the most, you have friends on here and with the knowledge we are all in the same boat will help you to get through the next few weeks or year. Try and relax, the forms can be done online and i found mine easy ish i had all the info i needed in my file but i do know where your coming from. Take care JO
