Does anyone know whether we have to notify our employer, whether the OR does it automatically, or whether it is none of their damn business? I work for a local authority.

You will need to check your contract as I think some local authorities do not accept bankrupts. The OR won't inform your employer - I told my employer as I needed time off to go to court and for the OR interview, and he was really supportive.

Wouldn't one's employer know from the nil tax code you are placed on?

As far as I'm aware a Nil Tax Code can be applied for a number of different reasons, so unless you have a super efficient, bored or nosy HR assistant, I doubt they would bother to check!!! My HR department can't even get my wages right each week (and I book on each day and write my hours down and send them the sheet!) so they'll probably be too busy sorting everyone's incorrect wages out to bother to probe too deeply! Anyway I would have thought that your pay details are private and confidential and not open to general office debate!
