Hi all,

Another question from me, I'm afraid. I'm sure I read somewhere about the OR (or someone!) having to inform the Local Authority when someone goes BR. Can anyone confirm if this is the case and if so, who exactly do they inform at the Local Authority and how widespread will the information be there?

Thanks,

CG. x

Hi CG,

To the best of my knowledge, the only time the OR would inform the local authority is if you had declared council tax arrears on your SOA.

Thanks Julian,

And presumably then it would just be the council tax dept?

Hi CG,

I would presume so. Bear in mind that the OR is still subject to data protection law as well.

There are lots of other debts that you could have with the LA, they include sewerage charge parking fines rents - too many to list im afraid. Do you have any debts with the LA???

No, I don't think so, although our council tax has been rearranged over fewer months so we're paying slightly more. Not sure if that counts as arrears?

Hi CG,

Difficult one to call. My feeling is that it would, but let's get clarification from Zoe.

Thanks Julian,

What happened was we arranged to pay over 10 months as usual, but from July-April instead of from March-December, which our LA seem to let you do no problem. When we moved into rented though, we then had to make up the rest of the money from the old house, so now they've just added a bit to each monthly payment.

Have you had a Final Notice or a Summons?
The other point is all Councils have their post opened securely and together for all departments. If the LA are written to in my experience they do not mark for a specific department and the post tends to "go round the houses" until the correct department is found. Is there someone that works at the Council you do not want to be aware??

No, no Final Notice or Summons. We just rearranged which months we paid, then had to make up for it now we've moved.

Does that make sense?

That would more than likely mean that the Council are not a creditor.
And you do not rent from the Council?
If not i cannot see why the OR would need to contact them.

Thanks Zoe, that helps. No, we don't rent from the council.

Yeah, without going into detail, there is a Dept i the local council who we would much rather weren't informed about our BR. (It's times like this that I wish this site had a Private Messge facility, so I could explain without making too many details public!)

Thanks again,

Not at all! :-) If you knew what it was, you'd know why I don't want to say.

Is there any way we could have a PM facility on here Julian? There are often times people would be able to get better info and advise if they could give much more detail and I for one, don't always want to post it on the forum. In this case, I think Zoe could help me more if she knew more about the situation.

Just a suggestion! :-)
