Hi just sat here thinking that BT and also O2 are sending us 2 cheques for overpayment on their accounts and also for the closure of the other one, which means we will be sent the cheques. Are we allowed as BR to accept these. Just wondering as its for payments already made and due back to us. Thank you

Hi there
if the overpayments were made after Br then the money could be banked as it is for utilities which has no doubt already been spend on other utilities.
If however the refund is for payments PRIOR to br then it should be sent to the Official receiver.

So if i paid my bill on the 17th of August, but on the 4th of August the account was cancelled but the money had been scheduled to be taken then the refund comes back to me on the 28th 11 days after i paid it via DD, is that mine or the OR's. OH's O2 bill was in credit on his last bill on the 1st of August, his contract ended 1st Sept, we went BR 4th Aug, a refund is being sent out to me in the next week or so as the last bill had to be made up before they could work out what was owed, is that ours or the OR's. This was due to the end of the 18 month contract. Thanks

Hi
if you went Br on 4th Aug and the bills were paid afterwards and are now refunded then the money is in my view yours.
this doesn't look like a windfall simply a refund of utility costs AFTER br

When I changed my car just prior to BR, the new policy generated a £20 refund. Rather than send a cheque out (so I could use it towards filling up my new car), they refunded the card I paid on. I hope this wouldn't cause a problem if the OR investigated? Hardly a preferential payment, I guess? |
