Dear Forum

I live in rented accommodation with a housemate. All of the rent and bills currently come out of my account and he pays me his share. If I was to go BR, would the OR need some kind of proof of this, and what would they need?

I would feel very awkward dragging my housemate into this whole messy affair!

Hi D&C, would it not be easier to ask your housemate if he/she would be able to pay the bills out of his/her bank account?

That way you can give the OR proof of expenditure if needed (by way of receipt from your housemate) and not have to worry about bouncing payments/frozen accounts.

Hi and sorry to bring this up again, but if my housemate was unwilling to have the rent / bills etc. coming out of his account, would I have to get some evidence or something from him to prove how much he pays me?

Hi
as an occupant of the household you are obliged to divulge certain details regarding your housemate within the SoA.

Just enter his/her contribution into section 6 where requested. You would not necessarily need to prove anything but the examiner will question you if the housemate's contribution is significantly lower than yours.

Hi John and thanks for your reply!

Currently my housemate pays £200 per month and I pay £375 so it is quite a bit lower, but he has a tiny little room and I have a cave of a room!

Would this be a problem do you reckon?
