Hi everyone,

I was wondering about getting frozen bank accounts. All our money (benefits ) gets paid into our bank and all bills rent, council tax, gas etc get paid by D/D. I asked the bank anonoumously about keeping the account but they said no BRs at all. I am worried about paying the bills and getting at my money after being Br. everything will have to be paid about 3 weeks after br so i wont have time to get D/D up and running but i dont know how i will pay bills if i dont have use of a debit card. I have been advised not to open an a new bank account till the day of the BR but does anyone know how long it takes to re arrange benefit payments to a new bank. Also can you open a co-op cashminder over the phone as there is not a branch near to us about 40 odd miles away in Brighton.
Sorry so many points but i have moved into panic mode this evening.

Hi there its me again.
Right lets see if i can help you.
Firstly to get the benefits paid in takes about a week.
Secondly it will be ok to empty your account prior to BR just mention to the OR that you removed the money to pay the bills for that month.
Thirdly if you open a cashminder account over the phone like i did same day as our branch is 40 miles away we got account info in 4 days we then in the mean time had benefits sent as giros apart from child benefit which they held until we got the new account number.
All dd's were put on hold until the account had ben set up and we paid in some cases 2 payments at once when they reinstated to bring them back up to date.
