I had a call from a J2 Solutions yesterday.

This was for a debt that was taken out in joint names in 1998 but I have since been divorced and I thought my ex husband had paid this - but obviously not. I spoke to someone on the phone and she asked if I had lived at previous addresses and then put me through to someone else and then the asked if I was Mrs X and I said I am not of that name, she then kept on asking so I put the phone down on her.

The contract was for 10 years at £28 per month in joint names (for a bedroom suite)this was started in 1998 - as far as I am aware my ex husband has not paid anything since 2000 (I think - but I am not in contact with him anymore). They have now caught up with me what should I do - as I wasn't aware this was still outstanding and this is not on my credit report.

Help please I am worried sick - they will come knocking my door.

I also have now received a letter today and dont know what to do as I understand that this debt is statue barred.

Please help!

Hi Katty10,

Please diregard Emma's comments as this behaviour is not allowed under the rules of the site.

The good news is that if this was an unsecured loan and it's been over 6 years since they've had contact with you, the debt is written off under the Statute of Limitations. Let them know this and you shouldn't hear from them again!

Hi Katty 10

please remember when communicating with the creditor that at no time should you agree, accept or state that the debt is or was ever yours.

Deny the debt at all times and quote the statute of limitations as Julian advised.
