Hi all
I've recieved a request rom the OR today for me to pay my tax when i go onto NT code. No issue there as i was expecting it. However, i'm currently on a temp contract and if my hours are down (off sick, going to court to go BR!!)then my pay is down therefore tax would be down.

The OR is requesting £150 per month which to be fair is the average that i have been paying. I know next month i am going to be down as having to take lots of time off this month for personal reasons. Can the OR demand that I still pay the £150? Just looks that way on the agreement that i've received and i'm not signing it till i know for sure!!

Hi Nat
the OR, in requesting the funds which would otherwise be deducted in tax, obviously has to estimate what you should pay in light of this.
The estimation is largely based on the information you have submitted on your SoA.
If £150 is the average then that's what he will require as by definition there will be some months where you will gain from it too.
How long have you been BR?
Is your NT tax code in place yet?

It takes a while so it may not be a problem in respect of your time off this month.

That said if you later get into a pattern of earning less than you entered on your SoA you need to have the situation addressed via discussion with the OR.

Hi John

Thank for your reply. I went BR on the 18th Sept and had my interview last Wednesday. I don't get paid till the end of the month so don't know about my tax code. But my tax code changed on my last pay slip from 522 to 602 which obviously reduced my tax last month by quite a bit.

I think a call to the tax office might help - what do you think?

Also, the time that i take off this month affects my November pay as i work a month in hand, so tax code may well have changed by then.

And just to complicate things a bit more, I may be going onto a contract in November which means i get paid twice (October agency and November organisation) so will have to pay one lot of pay over but my pay with my permanent employer is higher but i'd pay into a pension scheme (local government) and i estimate that i won't actually be on that much more than i am now but my wage will be the same each month, unless long term sick, no plans for that!! So would need to calculate my tax on that.

I am assuming that I will still pay NI??

Hope I've made sense!! And thanks to everyone again

Nat

Hi

When your employer changes the NT code gets cancelled and so you will not have to pay NT.

Hi Nat

We are in the same boat with regard to the IPA for the tax code.

My OH had his IPA which we read and understood that in the wording it says estimate, so by estimate i beleive that means subject to changes, he signed and sent it back. The OR worked it out at £285 which she knew we would not now be paying that per month as a drop in income from a change of role in OH's job would show.
Anyhow i wrote to the OR via email and also letter to explain about this, heard nothing back. Yesterday we got the letter from the solicitiors instructed by the OR "MoonBeever" to collect the monies clearly still stating the £285 per month. We then called them and explained how we had heard nothing from the OR about the change in PAYE now and that there would be a deficit of about £70 per month to what she had worked out when she knew that the slips we gave her were not right.
The solicitors asked us to fax over the last 2 wage slips which i did and i emailed them and they said they would now get my OH to fill in a "Change of Circumstances" form.
I have also got to send over a copy of this months slip and i have told them that i would only be putting by £220 this month if the IR have done there bit.
They also said they wont go for any monies until its sorted out.
I dont know if this has helped just wanted to say about ours.

LOL

Thanks Julian

I've received an email back from or who doesn't think that my short month's pay is going to be affected as NT code probably won't be applied to that one, fingers crossed eh? She said if it is consistently lower to contact the collection agent and fill in forms as required. Bit like Jo i guess.

Thanks everyone though

I went BR on 7th Aug, signed the Moonbeever NT IPA 3-4 weeks later. Still not on NT code, but was shifted to 602 code this month AND received the £60 tax rebate (yey!)
