Dear Forum

Hope you are all well?

Just wanted to share with you and get your thoughts on the following matter, which has really bemused me...

I have approx. £40,000 unsecured debt - £7,000 of which is with HSBC (Overdraft and Credit Card) - I started struggling to pay all my Creditors around May time this year and started to get help / advice on what to do - BR / IVA / DMP.

I stopped paying my Creditors full amounts in June and paid them £1 each for 3 months and have just started a DMP. I think I am going to have to go BR soon though.

I cut up all my Credit / Debit Cards about 3 months ago and opened 2 new Basic Bank Accounts. Today, I received a new Solo Debit Card from the HSBC, a new Bank Account Welcome Pack and a Loan Agreement for me to sign???!!!!

WHAT is going on??? I don't want a Loan. I don't want a new Bank Account and I certainly don't want to be with HSBC anymore!!! Do these people not get the hint???

What should I do???!!!

I'm confused...

Hi dazed! :-)

I'm good, thanks. Hope you are too hon?

How odd!! Could you maybe send them a letter making that clear and keep a copy of it for yourself (maybe even send it recorded delivery?). If/when you go BR, the last thing you want is for them to have any ammunition to say you wanted a loan at this stage.

Very strange indeed.

Hi C!

Good to hear from you again! Yes I am ok cheers - 2 days off from work now so that's always nice!

Yes I really don't know what to make of the HSBC situation???!!!

I think I need to speak to my DMP provider and get their thoughts.

My thinking is that maybe as they have now accepted the DMP offer they want to keep me as a customer and they would prefer to see it a Loan Agreement rather than a DMP, which is supposed to be flexible and informal.

I think you are right - when I go BR it would look very bad to sign up to this 'Agreement' I think maybe HSBC are just trying to be sneaky and get me tied up into more debt.

Do you know the thing which annoys me most though - when I went to see them about 6 months ago to discuss my difficulties with my repayments and debts they would not offer me anything at all - it was like a proper "The Computer says NO!" sitaution - they told me to come back in 6 months when I had shown them I could "manage my Account".

And now, when it suits them they are trying to keep my custom and offer me more debt. Ha ha ha! It's crazy. It makes me mad!

Anyway, rant over - sorry! There's no way I am signing up to that whatsoever!

Rant over...

Good to hear from you too! I keep watching out for you. We should swap email addresses like I suggested the other day. :-)

I think you're absolutely right not to sign up to whatever it is. It sounds like the last thing you need right now.

It is annoying isn't it?! I spoke to halifax (one of my biggest creditors) YEARS ago, asking what they could do to help me out. The answer?? NOTHING!! And look at them now, ending up with hardly anything back! Frustrating!

Hi C!

Thanks for looking out for me!

How does one go about an email exchange then like?

Is it not a bit risky to write it down on the forum?

Yep, there's no way I'm signing up to that - I am trying to get out of debt not jump back into it!

And yes, it is very annoying indeed - I tried to explain to HSBC that the charges and fees which they kept putting on my account were one of the contirbuting factors which kept knocking my account over it's limit thus causing more fees and charges - vicious circle - catch 22 - but they did not see it like that...

Very annoying indeed!

Rich.

Yep!! I was asking Halifax to put my CC into a loan, so that I at least had some prospect of paying it off at some point in my life, but nope, they wanted to go on claiming a huge amount of interest every month, then send me letters, just when I was starting to struggle, saying, 'Congratulations! We've increased your credit rating!' Grrrrrrrrr...you've got me on my soap box now! I'd better get off... ;-)

PS. If you agree I'll ask admin to exchange our email addresses, that's how they do it.

Hi C!

Yes if you could arrange that with Admin. then that would be good!

I forgot to say, I bought the MEN last week out of interest to look out for the BR adverts - they were near the back - near the Classified section - and it listed all the regional Courts from Greater Manchester e.g. Oldham, Bury, Trafford etc. I think it was on a Thu. I don't think they're in every day though. Don't know for sure though - don't really buy it any other time.

So, I think that must be the way they do it...

Sorry - bit of trivial information...
