Hello again
I opened a Co-Op cashminder account before I went BR. I would now like to start using this account. Does anyone know if I need to tell them that I am now BR?
Thanks.

Hi Mac

As i said in another post it really is better to open a new account after BR but some have done so before and the accounts have been fine, but i always say air on the side of caution and if you can wait till the day of your BR and open one straight afterwards, that way you dont have to write it on the SoA and it would be less likely to be frozen and so the account would not be touched, after you go BR just tell the bank of your BR status and that should be that.

But at the end of the day its up to you really i can only offer advice. :-)

Best of luck

Hi,
Yes i was told not to open account before BR so i waited. it was the first thing i did when we got home. But several people on here seem to be ok with opening beforehand.
Good Luck

They won't let you open a savings account when you are discharged either!

Hi Skippy

Do you mean the Coop wont let you open a savings account even when discharged.

Thats a shame, these banks need our money to help balance the books, oh well their loss and all that.

Yep, even when I was discharged they wouldn't let me have a savings account, as, guess what, I failed the credit check! I pointed out it's a savings account, so why did they need to credit check me, but I didn't argue too much in case they decided to close my Cashminder account!

I tried to open a savings account with Sainsburys bank as well, but they wanted a discharge certificate, which I can't afford to pay £60 for. In the end I opened a regular saver with Nationwide without any problems.

Hi Skippy,

When you say you have a regular savers account with Nationwide - did you just apply for that normally? And is it actually called Regular Savings Account.

I want to set one up when i am discharged in two weeks....would this be the best one...i have my account with Nationwide as well....

Thanks

Yes, it's called Regular Savings Account. I set it up online as I already have a FlexAccount with them.

Also, if you already have a FlexAccount you can set up e savings accounts to run alongside it. I've also got a couple of those.

And before anyone thinks I'm loaded, they're all empty at the moment!!!
