I'm applying for bankruptcy within the next couple of weeks and my car was due a service a few weeks ago - i had it done yesterday and it came to £270 because the wheels needed balancing as well. I've been told there is repair work that also needs to be done pretty soon which would total another £200. Shall i get it done before the bankruptcy because its essential upkeep/repairs or would the OR not see it this way?
I would have thought that would be ok to pay for the car work if its esssential to keep the car running for work etc.
Make sure that if you do you keep receipts and also if asked mention at the interview that is what you did, i take it that your car is required for work etc and that hopefully it is under the value for the OR to say to you that it should be exempt.

In that case then if you feel that the car would not be road worthy etc before BR then pay to have the works done, but unless it is aboslutely necessary then i would leave the repairs till you know what the position is with the OR and then take it from there.
Best of luck
Take Care
