Hi MAC

If you have internet banking with Halifax (I did a while ago) and you can cancel DD and Standing orders, its your account you are allowed to cancel it. hope this helps x

Hi MAC,
Please be careful, we had a loan and current acc with LLoyds Tsb and we read the contract and it states that they can take any money that is in your account for payment of products associated with them. I was advised by the national debtline to have wages etc paid into different account and if possible to have another bank acc all together. Luckily i had Alliance and leicester so when i cancelled all D/D i swapped to A&l. Also had all benfits paid into them. i was thinking along the lines of an IVA at the time but soon realised that BR was the only option so of course all bank acc now frozen anyway but it was worth it cause the waiting list for BR in my area was 7 weeks.
Sorry for long reply, good luck though.

Hi Mac

As Tracy has said when you have bank accounts and other debts with these accounts they can in the small print say that any monies in the account can/could be used to pay any payments to existing debts that you have with them.

I would check the small print, and where possible sort out another account asap.

I had one with Lloyds a current account and also loans and CC, i stopped paying money into the main current account and set up another account and paid any money into the LLoyds directly, making sure that i paid all my DD's and SO's via my new bank.

Please bare in mind that when i did that it was about 18 months ago and well before we decided that BR was our last option, we had at that time made arrangements directly with them to pay a set amount into our main account per month to pay over to the debts we had with them.

Best of luck

Jo x
