Did you go to court on your own? Did you pay a company to go with you and help prepare the forms? Did you take a family member with you? Has anyone ever asked you about your name being in the newspaper? |

Hi Confused,
The paperwork we filled out online as it was much easier and you can go over mistakes etc. There are companies that help you with the forms but they are expensive so unless you have a very complex life situation i wouldn't bother. Just post on here all the questions you have and we will help you.
I went to Court with Hubby as he was also being made BR, I'm not sure if you can have someone to accompany you inside the Courtroom, but i would imagine not, however a friend can be with you for the rest of the time. I would phone the Court to ask permission and see what they say.
I have only been BR for 10 days ans as yet my name has not appeared in the local Newspaper, however it is on the insolvency website.( fame at last!). We told the people important to us that we were going BR, and to be honest we don't really care what other people think. The ads are really small and you have to hunt for them. I really thought i would be different and thought i would feel ashamed but i am so glad that i went BR and feel so totally free that it really hasn't been an issue.
I can only speak of my own circumstances and my own point of view. Hopefully other people will reply and you will get an overall perspective.
Take care Tracy XX |

I completed the forms myself online, and I agree with Tracy that unless it's a very complex case it's not worth paying a company to complete the forms as they often charge a lot of money.
My partner went to court with me, but I went in the court room on my own. It was nice to have some moral support, but it was nowhere near as scary as I was expecting - everyone at the court was lovely.
No-one ever mentioned about my name being in the paper apart from my uncle who once he knew I was going BR looked for the ad each week! It's such a small ad that unless anyone it looking for it they'll probably miss it. I don't think many people know about them anyway - do you know which paper the ads are put in in your area?
Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, today is the present, a gift to make the most of.

Hi Confused,
Keep strong and once you tell your family and friends it will be easier to cope with. I know that its a huge thing to do, cause i had to tell my mum and dad and i felt dreadful, but it really has made all the difference and when i've felt crap, everyone knows why.
Take care and i will think you this evening

Hi Confused, I must admit my husband and I have kept it quiet to family and only told a couple of friends who have also gone BR. We didn't want people looking down on us. We've had to tell a couple of white lies to explain moving house etc. but both feel that it is no-ones' business but our own. Good Luck in your decision. S x |
