Had a phone call from a "mortgage counsellor" yesterday, I explained that we had told the lender we were sending back the keys but he insisted on a visit to "fill in his form". He had no business card or ID but worst of all halfway through the interview he said he was an introducer to a company in Manchchester who would annul the BR. I knew exactly where he was going but let him carry on. He said they would pay off all the creditors and then remortgage the property to get the money back.... I copied the forms he filled in and on one it says "remember mortgage regs- DO NOT CAPITALISE OR GET INVOLVED IN DISCUSSING REMORTGAGES OR ADVICE RE ALTERING THE STRUCTURE OF THE MORTGAGE"
So my dilema is..... do I report him to the lender, his company, or is there someone else who needs to know.
I cannot believe a "counsellor" is suggesting to a BR to remortgage to anul the BR.
Any thoughts.............

Hey Harbourmaster

That does sound a we bit dodgy, thats a strange case. Have you signed anything?

Sounds to me like he is trying to get you into more debt and be something he is obviously not.

That really does sound a bit sus.

I would give the helpline a quick call tomorrow and get some proper advice on this as i think the lenders may be trying to pull a fast one as this is a new one on me.

Let me know how it all goes.

do you now something , that is weird, we went BR on the 6th Oct and on the 8th received letters in the post from the same company based in Manchester claiming they could annul the BR and get us out of trouble.

I threw them in the bin. Vultures

I think that this practice will start to slow down soon.

They are predominantely looking for people with significant equity in property and will assist with a remortgage so that all the debts are repaid. People they are searching for are not folks who have declared themselves Br but people MADE br by a creditor ( usually HMRC ) where they are asset rich and cash poor.

It is not unusual to pay out £10k plus for this type of service.

Whoah, thats a lot of money, but then if you have very large assets and they need protecting then i know now that i would def pay to get professional help and guidance.

Some things you just cant do on your own. :-)

Perhaps the way I typed wasn't clear sorry.

Companies like these charge such a lot of money because people often think there are no alternatives, when there are.

I think that fees such as these are massive in the extreme and really just take advantage of peoples position.

earlier this year we helped someone to annul theit bankruptcy , clear all their debts and keep the family home. Frankly I couldn't sleep if we charged this sort of fee. It is madness.

Hi Paul

I see what you were trying to say :-)

I do however think though as i replied earlier that if you have assets and things that need protecting that prof help should be sort even if there is a fee involved.

I know packages are provided for the customer and i do wish now that i had someone there to help me through and wish i had paid a fee for that help and guidance.

Thanks again i did not mean to pick up on it, just saying that as prof's like yourself the fee even though yours is much lower is worth it in the long run.

LOL
