Hi folks,

I've got a general query here if any experts can help (or anyone else!).

I'm currently waiting to find out if a job I applied for in Australia is going to happen or not.
I have had two interviews and my wife came with me to the secoond one. The job would likely start in February or March 2009 if I got it and would be a permanent move.
They never asked about BR or anything like that, so I didn't mention it.
I understand I could continue my dealings with the OR from abroad, but would the BR be detrimental to my visa application, which the company does for me?

Lots of questions I know, and this opportunity came out the blue.
It's an opportunity for a completely new start, so am hoping all will be ok...

Can anyone advise please?

Hi

obviously this is an immigration question rather than bankruptcy. I'm sure your visa etc will not be affected. I have known quite a few emigrate soon after bankruptcy and one of the destinations was Oz so I think you would be fine.

Best of luck with the job!!

Thanks you John, much appreciated! ;) I've looked on Oz immigration website (government) and can find no restrictions on it.

All fingers and toes crossed, and maybe eyes too!

Hi gp,

I've just had a quick scout round the internet for you and found this on emigrationexpert.co.uk

'Generally speaking, previously being declared bankrupt in the UK won’t affect your chances of emigrating to Australia, but it’s entirely dependent on the set of circumstances of your visa application. If you have one personal bankruptcy to your name then you may not have a huge issue with your application to migrate to Australia. You must of course be able to prove that you are able to financially be independent from the state when you move there, so will need to prove that you have sufficient funds to live from when you do move. If you have had serial bankruptcy then you may not be considered of ‘good character’ which is one of the aspects that immigration consider before allowing you to remain in the country. Also, if you’re a business person entering on a business related visa, you may have extreme difficulty in convincing immigration that you’re capable of handling business finances there when you’ve been declared bankrupt in a business in the UK.'

It sounds pretty positive to me.

Hope all goes well for you hon!!
