Hello
Will my landlord be informed of my banckrupcy even if I have no rent arrears? The forms ask for his details but he is not on the cerditors list. Also will i have to declare that i am bankrupt when I am applying for a new job? I am a temp and my currnet contract ends two days before my court date.
Thank you for your time.

Hi Lopoc and welcome to the forum.

Yes, your landlord will be informaed of your bankruptcy irrespective of whether you've declared any rent arrears.

Hang on Julian. Is that true? Isn't it the case that the Bankrupt is duty bound to inform the landlord IF it says so in his/her tenancy agreement?

lopoc,

You would not have to say you were bankrupt when applying for a new job unless it asked on the application form or you were asked in an interview. For most jobs bankruptcy is irrelevant. Perhapos if it was a governemnt job or financial services, solicitor, etc. you would be asked but most times you wouldn't. You don't have to decale it unless asked and, frankly, the worst that could happen is you would get sacked if they found out. What you MUST do, however, is inform the OR within 21 days of any changes in relevant circumstances, including income. The requirements should be layed out in the form you got at your bankruptcy: 'NTB2'.

lopoc,

Just to clarify, I don't say it would be alright not to inform an employer or potential employer of bankruptcy if bankrupt. One should. Only I am saying is that if, for any reason, one did not inform them it would not be likely to be too serious other than the risk of losing the job. As I said, you usually don't have to declare it anyway.

When I was looking for a job whilst I was still BR I told the agency. I wouldn't have told a company if I'd applied directly, as far as I'm concerned providing it wouldn't affect the job (finance for example) there was no need for them to know.

Regarding your landlord, as far as I know the OR is supposed to inform your landlord, but they don't always do so.

Thank you all for replying so quickly - it's really helpful.
My court date is on Monday so hopefully I'll see/speak to the OR before Christmas.
