Hi everyone, I hope you are all well! First of all I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for all their help and support - although I've only made a few posts I have found the whole site very friendly, informative and helpful

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me, I am looking to move abroad at the end of Feb next year and am looking to go bankrupt mid Feb. We are in negative equity big time so are looking at handing back the keys and including the unknown shortfall on the statement of affairs. From the time we go br to the time we leave there may be a week or so where we will need to pay for accommodation. Also, when we arrive in our new country there will be living costs until I can find employment.

Is it acceptable to withdraw cash prior to the br with the intention of using these funds to cover the initial cost of living both here and in the new country? If so, how much would be permissible - would it be better to leave the funds in a bank account and then arrange an acceptable amount with the OR?

Also, my wife and I got married in July - the wedding was overseas in her country of birth and as we had no money available at the time, her brother paid for the majority of the costs (just over 4000 euros)a couple of weeks ago we paid him back just over half of the amount (I had a bonus) but I'm worried that we might be seen to be giving him preferential treatment (ie why did we not pay some back to all of our creditors?.

At the moment we are up to date with all of our debts but my job (as a financial advisor) has become untenable (our targets for next year have increased by 50% despite the economic environment and I am not making my targets at present - people are not keen to invest in stocks and shares at the moment for some reason!!!)I am looking to resign before I get fired to preserve a better chance at employment in the new country. Should I keep making payments up until we go br or should I stop now?

We purchased our plane tickets on credit card a couple of weeks ago - if we stop paying all our debts should we at least pay this amount (approx £1000)as it might look like we increased our debt prior to br?

Thanks in advance for all ur help and sorry the post is so long!!!!

Regards

John

Hi John,

Yours is quite a complex case and I would recommend speaking to one of my colleagues on the helpline who should be able to advise you further.
