Hi all,
Had a long read of a lot the posts here and found that at least I'm not alone!

Just emigrated to the US from the UK, originally planning to get working and repay my existing unsecured loan, credit card and overdraft from over here (£19.5k roughly altogether). Unfortunately, the US economy being what it is and jobs being scarce, I have so far been unable to find employment. I'm ok to pay this months charge, but next month is a definite no-no.
I'm not sure on my next course of action. I've looked into getting someone back home to be a power of attorney for me and file backruptcy, but I'm hesitant about getting them involved at it's a pain.
I've looked at going through an agency but to be honest if I'm applying for backruptcy, I really can't afford to pay the extra that would cost!
As my debts are with the same bank, what are the odds on them tracking me down and stinging me here? Unfortunately they do know that I'm in the States, and the bank is also owned by a worldwide bank (HBOS).
Any thoughts? Been keeping me up nights !

Hi Unserene and welcome to the forum.

I would suggest that whilst it's possible that you may be tracked down, I believe it will be unlikely for that level of debt. However, if you do intend on returning to the UK to live, then you could find yourself in a bit of bother. I would always advocate dealing with the problem now rather than waiting and hoping everything will be ok.
