well finally bankrupt, we had out appointment at 11 yesterday and were there for about 2 hours, I was like a damp rag at the end of it! I can honestly say though that the staff couldnt have been nicer, the judge even said to me I wasnt to worry and he wasnt there to judge me, just to reassure me that I was aware of the significance of what I was undertaking. The OR phone late afternoon and said he would call again in a fortnight that call took about 15 mins, he says as we only own about 2,800 of the car and its needed for work (my husband works over 40 miles away from were we live)its very unlikely that he will request its sale. we may have gone bankrupt a little early, it looks like we will have to borrow to move into rented accomodation, off a family member of course!but I was going nuts with the worry of it all, we were literally robbing peter to pay paul, today I've re connected the phone and i've already told 3 of my creditors that they need to contact the official receiver, I'm looking forward now instead of panicking and chasing my own tail, if anybody out there is wondering if this is the right step to take please be reassured it is! If your debts are insurmountable they wont go away, the problem needs to be addressed and the relief when the worry stops is indescribable.

Thanks Jo! whatever we have to pay the OR will be a lot less than if we tried to maintain the debt,we are just waiting for his decision now.

Hey Jan

Im so please you are now free of that stress - isnt it great to be able to answer the phone again.

I hope you find a rental home soon and as long as you are upfront with landlords and estate agents then im sure that you will not have too much a problem - even landlords have debts to pay too

Take care and keep posting

congratulations janni-jan i actually thought you were jumping the gun a bit but youve realised early what needed to be done.
I thought giving up our house would be the hard part and declaring br would be the easy part but its proved the other way round for us.
We are not normally indecisive probably lack courage fear of the unknown.
I bet when you told your creditors to contact the or you put on your best ever telephone voice.
once again congratulations.
