Hi All. I started on my IPA in December and made the first two payments without a problem. I am employed in two, hourly paid, part-time jobs in the Catering Industry and, as expected, there has not been a lot of work this month so my income is catastrophic. How do I go about grovelling to the OR about it? I did explain to them that I thought this would happen and they said not to worry........ but it has happened and I'm worried about what their attitude will be. Will appreciate any advice and Good Luck to all. John
you have nothing at all to worry about. Firstly, by the very nature of your income source your earnings are likely to fluctuate dramatically. Secondly you pre warned the examiner of this.
The first 2 months would not have been so difficult with the Xmas & New Year trade. January is traditionally a quiet time in the catering industry, you have nothing whatsoever to reproach yourself about.
Just copy the relevant wage slips and send them to the examiner or trustee explaining that you will not be able to meet the agreed payment due to the reduced income. Your expenditure allowances for the month should be known to you and if your income for the month does not meet it or exceed it by at least £100 then you should not be liable for payment. Keep doing this each month.
They know they cannot get blood out of a stone and IPA payments are specifically intended to be made when it is affordable, not when it is not.
Thanks for that, John. The OR was very understanding about it when I explained previously but you never really know until it happens!! Hopefully this month will be the worst and things will get back to normal by March. Thanks again John
